Have you ever wondered what you can do with old sheets, other than throwing them away? Well I recently faced that exact dilemma because I accidentally bleached and ruined part of my grey linen sheet set in the washing machine. However, the duvet cover part of my linen sheets was still in perfect condition, so I didn’t want to just throw the sheets out, and I thought it would be great to repurpose the linen sheet and turn it into a soft, cozy robe.

Luckily, Mood Fabrics has a free sewing pattern for the classic robe. This pattern, called the Fleur Robe, had all the features I was looking for -- a long silhouette, long sleeves, patch pockets and a belt. You can download the pattern here.

One quick note on sizing: I’m 5’2” and 125 pounds, and I decided to cut the size 6 based on the size chart provided on Mood’s website. However, in retrospect, I could have sized down even further, as this pattern is very generously sized (particularly the sleeves, which are drafted for someone with the arms of an orangutan!). I recommend that you cut the robe one size smaller than the size chart suggests, unless you like your robes extremely oversized. If I were to make this again, I would consider chopping off about six inches from the sleeves and another six inches from the hem of the robe. If you’re tall and have very long arms, you don’t need to make this adjustment, but I think most normally-sized people could benefit from shortening the sleeves, at the very least.
